The latest addition to Epok's suite of software products is the Enterprise Edition for Microsoft SharePoint with Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC), which extends SharePoint to include attribute - and policy-based authorization and access control. With the Epok software, SharePoint can now:
- Accept unanticipated users from other organizations, agencies or departments with no prior user provisioning,
- Plug into the emerging Backend Attribute Exchange (BAE) infrastructure throughout the federal government to retrieve attributes about SharePoint users,
- Tailor the SharePoint user experience to external users via standards compliant attribute-based policies expressed as XACML,
- Manage policy-based access from within SharePoint itself, and
- Integrate with external event sources, allowing administrators to pre-provision sites and set up access rules contingent on external events, like a bomb threat in progress.
For federal and local government users, Epok's ABAC solution can also leverage both Common Access Card (CAC) and Personal Identity Verification (PIV and PIV-I) cards for user identification, allowing zero pre-provisioning for users previously unknown to the organization hosting SharePoint.
For environments where user attributes are available, combining Attribute-Based Access Control with SharePoint results is an extremely powerful, scalable and easy to manage solution. For fast, secure, compliant, agile, low overhead, cross-agency or cross-organization collaboration, SharePoint and Epok together provide an unbeatable combination.
